Resource Base Curriculum
At Oakfield Community Primary & Nursery School, our curriculum is designed to equip all pupils for lifelong development by fostering a love of learning and encouraging independence. Our Resource Bases support children who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) whose primary need is Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
As a school, we are committed to offering high-quality inclusion and feel that the offer of a Resourced Provision allows more children in need of specialist support to access it whilst also enhancing our offer to other children within our mainstream classes.
"Our aim is to provide pupils with high quality teaching and learning based on careful assessment of individual pupil’s needs and provide a nurturing, inclusive environment."
We recognise that all pupils learn at different rates and require varying types of support at different stages in their school journey.
We have considered our curriculum to ensure that it provides a structured yet flexible framework that addresses barriers to learning and promotes success through well-differentiated teaching approaches tailored to individual needs.
Our curriculum is underpinned by a focus on four core areas:
Communication:
Supporting pupils to develop their preferred mode of communication.
Personal Development:
Building confidence, self-esteem, and independence.
Physical Development:
Encouraging fine and gross motor skills.
Cognitive (Thinking) Skills:
Fostering problem-solving, critical thinking, and academic progress.
We create a stimulating and inclusive learning environment that reflects pupils' backgrounds, interests, and experiences.
This promotes functional, meaningful learning opportunities that build confidence, resilience, and independence in real-world settings.
Our structured assessment systems provide regular, accurate, and manageable insights into individual progress.
These include:
Termly reviews of individual goals.
EHCP Annual Reviews.
Work evidenced in books/recorded on See-Saw.
Halton Early Years Developmental Profile
Engagement Model
B Squared Small Steps
Assessments in-line with the whole school policy
Professional discussions within the team and with multi-agency professionals.
