Music
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. At Oakfield, we believe a high quality music education should engage and inspire all pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. We take an equitable approach to providing a range of musical engagement opportunities in school.

Key Music Provision at Oakfield
At Oakfield Community Primary School, we are committed to providing a rich and varied musical education for all pupils. We collaborate with external music providers to offer free opportunities and experiences, ensuring every child can explore and develop their musical talents. These partnerships enhance our curriculum by bringing specialist expertise into school, supporting pupils to engage with a wide range of instruments, styles, and musical activities in an inclusive and inspiring environment.
We begin our pupils’ musical journey in EYFS and KS1 by engaging them with a wide variety of instruments and participating in the Infant Music Festival. These experiences provide early opportunities for pupils to explore rhythm, melody, and expression in a supportive and joyful environment. Through hands-on learning and collaborative performances, pupils develop foundational musical skills and a love for music that inspires their ongoing musical development.
In Key Stage 2, we build on pupils’ early musical experiences in by providing a rich and varied instrumental tuition programme. Pupils have the opportunity to develop their skills and musicality through Gospel singing (Y3), Guitar (Y4), Brass and Woodwind lessons (Y5), as well as Taiko Drumming (Y6). This diverse provision supports pupils to gain greater control, fluency, and expressive ability on their instruments, while broadening their understanding of different musical traditions and cultures.
