Computing

Our Computing education equips all children to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Through engaging and equitable lessons, our Computing curriculum goes beyond the principles of information and computation, it also covers how to use technology to create programs, systems and a range of content as well as covering Online Safety (See our Online Safety Page) and teaching pupils on how to be digitally literate in the modern world.

Technology at Oakfield

In our ICT Suite, pupils from EYFS and KS1 develop foundational computing skills such as using devices, understanding sequences, and practising safe and responsible digital use. We focus on digital literacy, including effective use of hardware, software, and online safety, ensuring pupils become confident and discerning users of technology. Our curriculum integrates computer science, information technology, and digital literacy to prepare pupils for increasingly complex tasks, fostering creativity and critical thinking in a safe digital environment. The suite also supports the wider curriculum.

We use iPads extensively to enhance both our computing curriculum and wider learning. iPads enable pupils to develop essential computing skills such as programming, digital creativity, and online safety in an engaging, hands-on way. They also support learning across subjects like literacy, maths, science and the wider curriculum by providing interactive and personalised learning experiences. This integration helps pupils become confident, competent, and responsible digital users, well-prepared for the demands of a digital society.

We use Netbooks to support our computing and wider curriculum, ensuring all pupils have fair and equitable access to technology. Netbooks are ideal for tasks such as typing, coding, and research, providing a flexible tool for developing computing skills and completing curriculum work. Alongside the iPads, which enhance interactive and creative learning, this combination allows us to meet diverse learning needs and deliver a balanced digital education, helping every pupil become confident, competent, and responsible users of technology.
