Forest School

What is Forest School?

The philosophy of Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive outdoor experiences.

It is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment setting. At Oakfield we have a designated area, which comprises a woodland area, orchard and willow dome but also use other parts of the school grounds from time to time.

Whilst taking part in these sessions, children have the opportunity to learn about the natural world, develop practical skills, such as stick carving and fire lighting, and explore and play in their woodland setting. That setting changes with the seasons and the children are out whatever the weather!

Will my child need any special clothing for Forest School?

When your child’s class is due to take part in Forest School sessions, we will remind you on Class DOJO and they can come dressed for the day.

Their basic outdoor PE kit should generally be fine, though you may, particularly in the winter months, wish to send in wellingtons or walking boots to use instead of trainers, along with hat and gloves. The school has purchased waterproof jackets and over trousers in a range of sizes for the children to use. Any other equipment we use is generally provided by the school.
