E-Safety
At Oakfield Community Primary School, we are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all pupils, including when they use technology. E-safety (online safety) is a vital part of our safeguarding approach, helping pupils to learn, play, and communicate safely in the digital world. This page provides guidance, information, and resources for pupils, parents, and staff to work together in promoting responsible and secure use of technology.
What is E-Safety?
E-safety means staying safe and behaving responsibly when using the internet, mobile devices, apps, and online games. It involves protecting personal information, understanding risks, and knowing how to get help if something goes wrong.
E-Safety for Pupils
We educate pupils about safe online behaviour through age-appropriate lessons and activities. Our aim is to develop responsible digital citizens who understand how to protect themselves and others online.
Here are some important tips:
Keep personal information private – don’t share your full name, address, phone number, or passwords online.
Think before you post – remember that what you share online can be seen by others and can last forever.
Be kind and respectful – treat others how you want to be treated and report any bullying or unkind behaviour.
Tell a trusted adult if you see or experience something that makes you feel uncomfortable or worried.
Use school devices and the internet following our school rules and your teacher’s instructions.
We also use age-appropriate resources like Childnet and Thinkuknow to help pupils learn how to stay safe online.
Supporting Pupils
We educate pupils about safe online behaviour through age-appropriate lessons and activities. Our aim is to develop responsible digital citizens who understand how to protect themselves and others online.
E-Safety for Parents and Carers
Supporting your child’s online safety at home is crucial. Here are some ways you can help:
Talk regularly with your child about what they do online and encourage open, honest conversations.
Set boundaries and rules for screen time and the types of websites, apps, and games they can use.
Use parental controls on devices and internet access to help philtre inappropriate content.
Be aware of online risks such as cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and online strangers.
Encourage responsible behaviour and help your child understand the importance of privacy and kindness online.
Contact the school if you have concerns or need advice about your child’s online activities.
If you want to learn more, visit Internet Matters or the UK Safer Internet Centre.
E-Safety: Teaching & Learning
E-safety is taught throughout the curriculum to help pupils develop the knowledge and skills to stay safe online. This includes:
Understanding how to use technology safely and responsibly.
Recognising online risks and knowing how to respond.
Learning about digital citizenship, privacy, and respectful communication.
Opportunities to discuss and reflect on online safety issues in class.
We aim to empower pupils to make safe choices and use technology confidently for learning and creativity.
