The Transition Toolkit

This Toolkit, which has been compiled by professionals across Halton’s Early Years sector, is intended as a starting point to assist you with thinking about transitions for early years children in Halton. When thinking about transitions consider the following aims;

-All children will have successful transitions, which will enhance their well-being, learning and development.

-All children and their families will develop a sense of belonging and will ‘feel known’

-All children and their parents/carers have opportunities to contribute to their transition

-Transitions are personalised to meet the child’s individual needs.

Effective Transition

Effective transition should be based on the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory underpinning principles.

How can I help my child get ready?

We understand that all children develop at their own pace, and that we’re all learning from birth. When it’s time to start school, some children will need more help than others. There are key skills* that schools expect children to be learning before their first day. Practising these will make your child’s journey to Reception as positive as possible.
