Welcome to Reception

We are delighted to welcome you and your child to Oakfield Community Primary & Nursery School and we hope that you are as excited about joining us in September as we are of meeting with you. Below are some information guides and a presentation which we show new reception starter parents during the summer term and invite everyone in to meet the team.

In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any queries.

Reception

School day for a Reception child: 8.40 a.m. - 3.10 p.m.

The Reception classroom doors open at 8:40 a.m. each day. On arrival, all children are offered breakfast bagels and enjoy a calm, welcoming start to the day before registration begins at 8:55 a.m.

We have carefully considered the needs of our children and recognise the benefits of a gentle transition into the school day to help them feel settled and ready to learn. In consultation with our families, we have also adjusted our start times to support those with siblings in other year groups, enabling a smoother drop-off across all key stages.

Curriculum

Our Early Years Curriculum is taught through a ‘hands on’ practical approach, embracing and encouraging the children’s interests. The children learn through purposeful play, using a range of resources that ignites curiosity and generates an enthusiasm for learning.
